Fact or Fiction

It is very discouraging to look at the daily news and see so many ideas on display that may or may not be true. Many of what the media is reporting is biased in one direction or another to meet their agenda. It is a sad state of affairs that this country has come to, you do not know what to believe and what not to believe in the press today. How do we discern what is real and what is not real? Well, it is hard, but you have to look at all the details of a specific story and start fact checking for yourself. When you do this, you find so much deceit, lack of attention to detail, and outright lies.

For example, the controversy over Jill Biden’s degree. Are people being sexist, unfair, or is her dissertation an embarrassment to the University of Delaware. No doubt she worked hard, but how does it stack up to others who have been brought into this controversy? Is the conservative side of the house being sexist? Or are they just showing that her dissertation does not standup under academic rigor? We need to start looking at the facts, yes, facts hurt peoples feelings, but this is not about feelings, it is about facts.

It is tiring to see the endless controversies based on fiction and not the facts. It is also tiring to see discrimination blamed in so many ways, when in fact, it has nothing to do with discrimination, but based an individual desire to hide the truth.

Proverbs 16:16 shares with us that “How much better to get wisdom than gold! To get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver.” Proverbs 16:18 states “Pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall.” These are words we can trust and live by. So, today, let’s focus on the truth, not fiction, not debate, but take a step toward wisdom, and base our thoughts and opinions on facts, not emotion, not trying to save face (whether we agree or not). Can we stand-up and prove our point, with truth, wisdom, and integrity, or are we going to join the club that distorts facts, makes things up, or blames social issues for everything?
