The Slippery Slope
We have all heard the term “the slippery slope” which generally means that you start heading in a certain direction and before you know it, your attitude, your way of thinking, and your life’s journey may have ended up in a place you did not want or even expect. One bad decision or choice can lead to another one, and again, and again, until your conscience and soul are accepting of many sinful behaviors. I find it fascinating how a chain of decisions, or actions, can lead you down a certain road, a road that desensitizes you to sin and the sins of others. When we look at today’s crazy political, cultural, and social environments, I wonder how we have gotten to a place that is so full of anger, rage, deceit, lust, greed, and hypocrisy? I would suggest that many of us, including myself, have compromised our beliefs in a righteous God, and ignored or looked past many sins, because society is telling us that sin is acceptable (and this is the human condition). Or, we may have been afraid, intimidated, or worried about being accepted by the mob, our friends and family, or others around us.
If everyone around us is openly sinning against God, showing no signs of repentance, or a desire to turn from sin, does it mean that we should accept sin as being the norm? I would propose that for too long “Christians” have ignored, or even openly acknowledged that many sins are okay. We may not have done this verbally, but by our actions, by not sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with others, or telling people that sin is not a big deal, since the culture is saying it is normal. Where do you stand? Are you actively repenting for your sin? Are you praying for our Nation that we turn from grieving God with all this sin, and forge ahead, sharing the Gospel, loving others, and condemning sin?
Are we sharing with our friends and family Romans 3:21-26 (NIV) “21 But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. 22 This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. 25 God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished— 26 he did it to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.”
Friends, we need to stand up for our faith, we need to let others know that sin breaks God’s heart, and that a heavy price was paid for our sin. The price paid was the death of Jesus Christ on the cross, who scarified his life for us, that we may be free from the bondage of sin, and know the truth of the Gospel message. So, let’s stop compromising, and be people of faith, prayer, truth, and integrity. Let’s stand our ground and not compromise on sin, even if everyone else is saying it is normal. Yes, we are all sinners, but that does not mean that we accept sin as being the norm!
