This is not who we are!
This begs the question as to who we really are. The answer will depend on whom you talk to and their upbringing, religion, culture biases, political affiliations, peer influence, and many other factors. But, is this who we truly are? Am I a product of my culture, or a product of the political party I belong to? Many are saying over the past week “This is not who we are.” Are we not violent? Are we not biased? Are we not racist? Are we not full of hate, anger, anxiety, fear, and a desire for control? Are not the pursuits of a Godless people: money, sex, and power? Look at our society today, and you will see chaos, and you will see each individual fighting for their part of the pie. The “have nots, want what the haves have.”
You see a nation of people fighting for more money, more power, more sex, and basically self-idolatry or self-worship. I am afraid this is who we are, plain and simple, this is the nature of sin. No matter what politicians say, the educated elite, or even many who are in the ministry say, plain and simple, this is who we are, SINNERS. Our country has lost its focus on the one and only thing that can save us from this madness. That being, the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. You may ask, how can we become more civilized? I would suggest accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and savior, saying the sinner’s prayer, and following Him daily. You will be sensitive to your own sins, and your eyes will be open to the evil all around you, it is so pervasive today, so many are blind, and God’s heart aches.
How can we stem the tide? Pray, read the Bible, evangelize, love your neighbor, and engage in ministry. If not, this once great nation will surely fall, due to the judgement of God for being an adulterous sinful people. Remember Sodom and Gomora, Genesis 18:32 “Then he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak again but this once. Suppose ten are found there. He answered, For the sake of ten I will not destroy it.” Abraham was pleading with God not to destroy Sodom and Gomora if 10 righteous people could be found. God agreed, but 10 were not found and Sodom and Gomora was destroyed.
More than ever, we need to stand up for our faith, be righteous people, in an unrighteous nation. We need to turn the tide…
